11 Movies in 9 days

11 Movies in 9 days

It’s easy to lead off this blog entry saying that I saw 11 movies in 9 days, which is true. Maybe it sounds impressing, or maybe its grounds for me to be committed. But the true fact that I’ve been busy and lazy at the same time and haven’t updated my blog as quickly as I wanted. So I’ve got the rundown ready for the films I squeezed into just over a weeks time.

It was date day with Jane. She wanted to see The Runaways with me ever since she learned about this movie coming out. I’ve looked forward to this movie for a awhile now. The Runaways are about the real life all girl rock band that formed in the late 70’s with guitarist Joan Jett, Lita Ford and lead singer Cherie Curry. This band was supposed to take over the world at the time before they self-destructed. Joan Jett was played by Twilight star Kristen Stewart and fellow Twilight co-star and formerly huge kid star Dakota Fanning played Cherie Curry. This was a good movie. The soundtrack was awesome. The best part was the look of the movie and the chemistry between Kristen and Dakota. The Runaways were infamous for being very young (15 & 16 years old) while sharing in the debaucheries of their older and male counterparts at the same time.

Most of us know that Joan Jett went on a very successful solo carreer. Even Lita Ford had a late 80’s, early 90’s successful solo stint. But what happened to lead singer Cherie Curry? Is she dead? I was wondering this towards the end of the movie. My question was answered when the movie listed “where are the now” just prior to the credits. Turns out that Cherie Curry has been a very successful chainsaw artist. WTF? I know right? Jane did some Google searching and found this out, check this link out :

She’s damn good. I’m glad to find out that she’s not dead.

A few days after my date with Jane I hit the theater with a multi movie marathon day. I wanted to get my yearlong experiment rolling again with 5 movies in today. I went to a different AMC theater I’ve only done a marathon once before. It’s a smaller theater so it makes me more nervous theater switching. But I had a good planned schedule with the movies I wanted to see without any of them running into each other and no long dead spots where I had to kill time with fake dumps or theater naps. The only problem was when I got to the theater each movie I wanted to see next, I had to travel pass the main lobby each time cause the next movie was always on the other side of the theater. Uggh. Well, that’s where no eye contact and fake cell phone calls come in handy:-)

The first movie I saw was Date Night starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey. This movie was very funny and paced well. In my opinion Tina Fey is the funniest woman in entertainment. I think she’s hot too. She’s consistently on my TOP 5 List; do you know what I mean? You know, the fantasy list of top 5 celebrities you’re allowed to sleep with that you’re significant other has to give you a pass for. The TV show Friends had a very funny episode about this subject when Ross decided to laminate his list, and that posed a problem. I’ll share my Top 5 list in a future Movie Marathon Man blog post. Start thinking about your list:-)

The second movie I went to was After.Life. This movie was about a young woman caught between life and death and a funeral director who appears to have the gift of transitioning the dead. It stars Christina Ricci and Liam Neeson. This movie sounded like a cool thriller horror combo. “Tcshhhhhhhhhhh, did you hear that sound”. That was the sound of a “can of suck” opening up. Oh my god did this movie suck. The concept seemed cool at first, but man this movie was bad. Being a guy, the only redeeming quality of this movie was “Boobie Alert”! For my fellow guys out there at least you get to see Christina Ricci and her boobies, a lot. Her boobies shared a lot of screen time :-)

OK, back on track. The next three movies I saw were ones I’ve already seen before but wanted to see again. I’m not trying to pad the number of movies I seen just to increase my movie tally. I really like seeing some movies more than once. I saw How To Train Your Dragon in 3D again. I brought my own 3D glasses again. I really like this movie in 3D. Visually this movie is very cool. It’s cute too. Next I saw Hot Tub Time Machine. I had to see this again cause the first time I saw it with Jane on opening weekend it was so funny that many jokes were missed cause we couldn’t hear through the laughter from our fellow theatergoers from the previous jokes. The second time around this movie was just as funny if not funnier. The last movie I went to see (again) was Clash Of The Titans in 3D. In a previous blog post I said that this movie wasn’t worth paying for in 3D. After seeing it again I still believe this, but since I snuck in my own 3D glasses, I figured what the fuck? I’ll see it again in 3D.

Tonight was date night with Jane. We went to dinner after I got off work. We went the Macaroni Grill. I love the food and atmosphere here. Jane looked beautiful tonight too. It was entertaining at the Macaroni Grill tonight. It was prom night for the high school kids. It was fun to check out the guys’ suites and the girls’ fancy dresses. In my mind it was fun to ponder which dates were couples and which ones were emergency last minute “for the love of god I don’t have a date, please be my prom date” dates :-) FYI, mine was the latter too. I went to my prom with a friend, cause two weeks prior to my prom my new girlfriend at the time dumped me for her ex-boyfriend, who she ended up going to the prom with.  Bitch, cunt! That’s right, I used the C word. She deserved it. Back too much better times:-)

After the movie Jane and I went to see the move Death at a Funeral, which had an all-star cast of very funny performances. Chris Rock, James Marsden, Tracy Morgan and Danny Glover             were my favorites. I think Jane actually fell out of her seat cause this movie was so funny. This movie was well written and paced well. I recommend this movie, but make sure you piss before the movie starts or you will be leaking while you’re laughing.

Today was a Monday and a day off from work. Perfect for a Movie Marathon! Before My stop at the theater I went by from friend and co-workers house to look in on his cat. I said I would take care of his cat while he was on vacation visiting his family out of state. He adopted this male cat from another co-worker who found him hanging around his front door starving for attention. This cat is cute, but was a little standoffish when I first met him last week to get his care instructions. Pets in general seem to like me. I don’t know what it is exactly but pets tend to trust me and let me handle them. After a few minutes this cat was putty in my hands.

My movie marathon started at 11am at the large AMC Theater north of the perimeter, not the usual one I go to south of the Atlanta City perimeter. This was the theater I went to for the first time earlier this month to see How To Train Your Dragon in 3D for the first time. This theater is big and spacey, the way I like them. After I bought my ticket I bought my #1 large popcorn diet coke combo. I had a free small popcorn coupon with a purchase of a large drink. You can upgrade the small popcorn to a large for two extra bucks. Which means free refills on the large:-)

The first movie I saw was Kick-Ass. There are some movies I know I will see more than once even before I see it in the first place. This was one of them, so I planned for it today. I “sliced” this movie, more on that later. This movie was so much fun and funny too. It’s based on a very violent graphic novel. One, which I thumbed through just the other day at a Borders bookstore. I’m happy to say that the movie was deliciously violent as well. It’s another comic book made into a movie. But this is one of those done right. It’s about a comic book nerd kid who decides to become a superhero without superpowers, along the line of a vigilante. The movie is rated R for a reason. This movie wouldn’t have worked if it was PG-13. Kick-Ass, kicked ass baby!

The next movie I saw was The Joneses starring Demi Moore and David Duchovny. This movies concept peak my interest as soon as I heard about it. It’s about a fake family who is hired to move into a rich neighborhood and push their expensive clothes, cars, jewelry, golf clubs etc onto their rich new friends. It’s their job to mingle with the rich elite alpha males and females and to turn them onto the products given to them to sell. The kids take this to the schools and the parents take to their neighbors and golf and salon peers. Things of course don’t go as planned. Unforeseen relationships and other obstacles get in the way of their well paid for perfect lives. A very clever film I highly recommend. There is a “boobie” alert for the guys too. Heh, heh.

Next on my movie schedule was Kick-Ass again. But I decided to “slice” it. That’s when I see the first half of the movie, so I can see another movie on the schedule before I see the second half. Sometimes the movie’s cant all be scheduled back to back. So I will see part of one movie, leave, see another movie on my list all the way through, then come back and see the second half of the movie I saw the first of.

So I half way through Kick Ass I left to go see a movie called Chloe starring Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore. I didn’t have high hopes for this movie, but it peaked my interest. I happy to say that I enjoyed it more than I thought it would. I would call it an “erotic drama”. It’s about a doctor who hires an escort to seduce her husband, whom she suspects of cheating, though unforeseen events put the family in danger. This move was kind of sexy and disturbing at the same time. There was some G.O.G action (girl on girl action) Yeah, yeah! That’s always good:-) Oh, and for the guys reading this, “boobie alert” for both Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore. Did I enjoy this movie more only because there was boobies? No, but it didn’t hurt. The erotic side of this movie was very good, so was the over style of the film. At the end of this movie I left to go see the first 30 minutes of Avatar in 3D to kill time. This is the only theater still showing Avatar in 3D in town I think. I was prepared I snuck in my own 3D glasses. By the way, this theater charges and extra $5.00 per ticket for 3D movies and an extra $7.00 per ticket for a converted IMAX ticket. Fuck me. Still think I’m ripping off the theater for what I do?

After the first 30 minutes of Avatar in 3D I left to go see the 2nd half of Kick Ass again in another theater. I enjoyed this movie just as much the second time around. This movie is a must see for my fellow nerds out there. I’m wondering how many Kick Ass costumes I will see this year at DragonCon in Atlanta (http://www.dragoncon.org/). I’ll be there, if you know me, you know I will:-)

Love the latest blog entry. I DID literally fall out of my seat during Death at a Funeral (Good thing we were in the handicapped seats so I didn’t have a row of seats to block my fall).

As for whether or not you should be committed??? I think this shows you ARE committed… to seeing a crazy amount of movies. I’m not sure what that means, but I applaud your commitment ;)
